Bob Woolmer may have been strangled using a towel, suspected Al Qaeda link

According to latest reports, Jamaican police believe that Woolmer may have been strangled using some cloth, possibly a hotel towel. Reports quote Jamaica's deputy police commissioner Mark Shields as saying that the absence of marks on Woolmer's neck suggest that the murderer did not strangle Woolmer using his or her bare hands; rather there must have been something between the hands of the murderer and Woolmer's neck.

Mark Shields insists that even though the first pathology report was inconclusive, he is convinced that Bob Woolmer was murdered.

The Pakistan Times has reported that even though the Pakistan team has been allowed to return to Pakistan, the team has not been cleared in the inquiry into Woolmer's murder. Mark Shields has been quoted as saying that no one can be ruled at this stage of the investigation. Shields has said the theory that comes to light is that of match-fixing but that it is not the only line of inquiry.

Mark Shields has also been quoted as saying that he can identify many people from the digital security images as those he had met in the week after Woolmer's murder.

The police has not ruled out the possibility of a hit man being involved in Woolmer's murder.

Meanwhile, there are rumours of an Al Qaeda link to Woolmer's murder, circulating in some British newspapers. The Sun has said that a Pakistan-based bookie was thrown out after Woolmers' room after a row. The daily has said that the bookie was linked to Dawood Ibrahim.

Bob Woolmer's memorial service will be held in Cape Town on Wednesday at the Wynberg Boys' High School.

Sanjaya Malakar very likely to win the American Idol contest

Sanjaya Malakar, the 17-year-old Indian contestant of American Idol is neck-deep in controversy.

Despised by critics, spoofed on televisions, backed by DJ Howard Stern, Sanjaya Malakar is a serious contender to win the American Idol contest. Malakar has already made it to the top nine in the contest.

While Malakar has been much maligned by critics and judges, he seems to hold some appeal for a lot of viewers and has received support from unexpected quarters.

DJ Stern has been consistently promoting Malakar to his approximately six million listeners, according to a timesonline report. What is also helping him is the website VoteForTheWorst.com which is running a campaign to vote for Malakar.

If this sweet-looking son of an Indian father and Italian mother from Seattle wins, it may spell doom for the American Idol franchise, some reports say. Usually, mediocre to poor contestants are voted out early into the contest but if Sanjaya Malakar is not voted out and actually wins the contest, the credibility of American Idol will be rocked.

American Idol is already low on ratings. However, it is also very likely that the fervid interest in Malakar may bolster flagging ratings, with viewers vying to vote him out or in depending on which side of the divide they are.

Controversy is also raging around Malakar's Indian roots. Reports say the Indian American community is pushing hard and garnering votes to keep Malakar in the reckoning.

Meanwhile, American Idol's caustic judge, Simon Powell, has said that he will walk out of the show, should Sanjaya Malakar win.

But the fact remains, however weak Malakar's peformances may be, he has a very strong fan base. Malakar's long flowing hair and winsome smile has made him very popular with young girls. He also has a certain kind of charisma and stage presence which is keeping him firmly in the running.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows cover pictures

The back and front covers of the last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has been released by its US and UK publishers Scholastic and Bloomsbury, respectively.

According to news reports, the US publisher Scholastic have used Mary GrandPre, the illustrator of the earlier six US editions of the Harry Potter series, to design the cover.

The front cover features Harry standing with his arm outstretched against an orange-gold sky. Harry is surrounded by shadows of other people in what looks like a walled structure.

According to reports, the wrap-around cover shows spidery hands on the back cover that are outstretched towards Harry. On opening the book, one can see an image of He-who-must-not-be-named.

The UK publisher Bloomsbury has a children's cover featuring Harry, Ron, and Hermione looking troubled, surrounded by lots of treasure. The inside front flap features a stag at the bottom.

The adult cover has a locket shaped like a S, which could be Slytherin's locket.

Harry Potter will be released on July 21, 12.01 AM. The previous six Harry Potter books: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince have been bestsellers.

Pax Thien's adoption by Angelina Jolie is legally binding, says top vietnamese official

In response to the News of the world report that Angelina Jolie may lose Pax Thien to his biological mother, the director of Vietnam's International adoption department, Vu Duc Long, has said that it was impossible for Pax Thien's birth mother to reclaim the three year old, according to News24. The official said that the adoption was totally legal and therefore could not be challenged.

Yesterday News of the world had reported that Angelina Jolie may lose her newly adopted son, Pax Thien Jolie since she adopted Pax Thien without his biological mother's consent.

According to the tabloid, the adoption papers of Pax Thien were signed by his grandfather and grandmother and now the grandfather, Chieng, was saying that Pax's biological mother ws a heroin addict and may do anything for money.

Apparently, the mother had Pax when she was involved with a married man who did not acknowledge Pax. The boy then ended up in an orphanage because his living conditions were so bad. Pax's grandparents have five children and could not take care of Pax.

Long had approved Pax's adoption. He told News24 that the adoption followed vietnamese law and that the biological mother had lost all claims on the boy when she abandoned him as an infant. Long added that the police had tried to search for the mother but they could not find her. He also added that Pax Thien's grandparents had never visited him in the orphanage all this time and that at the time of the adoption they were tracked down.

Earlier, Time magazine had reported that Pax Thien had been abandoned at birth and for 30 days signs were put up seeking the mother. However, when the biological mother did not turn up, Pax was sent to the Tam Binh orphanage.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Trung, director of the Tam Binh orphanage, from where Pax Thien was adopted by Angelina Jolie last week, has denied that Jolie could lose Pax.

Also, Vietnamnet has carried an interview with Pham Chieng, Pax Thien's grandfather where Chieng has said that they have no idea about what is being reported in News of the World. The family says that they have signed no papers for adoption. They say that they had been informed about the adoption by the Tam Binh orphanage and the HCM city department of Justice. The family also denies that Pax Thien's biological mother was involved with a married man. This account ties up with what Vu Duc Long is saying.

Early last week, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopted a three-year-old vietnamese boy from the Tam Binh orphanage in Ho Chi Minh city. Jolie looking to adopt another child had applied for a healthy boy between ages three and five. Pax Thien was the only boy at the Tam Binh orphange who met that criteria.

Jolie had signed the adoption papers as a single parent as Jolie and partner Brad Pitt are not married. Rumours are doing the rounds that Jolie and Pitt will tie the knot this Easter.

The couple already had three children; Maddox, 5, adopted from Cambodia, Zahara, 2, adopted from Ethiopia, and Shiloh Nouvelle, born last year to the couple.

Anna Nicole Smith died of accidental overdose

The New York Times has reported that Anna Nicole Smith died of an accidental prescription drug overdose last month according to the autopsy report.

Traces of many drugs such as muscle relaxants, pain relievers like methadone and anti-anxiety medicines were found in Smith's body. The primary drug was identified as the sedative chloral hydrate.

The medical examiner also said that other contributing factors included an intestinal flu and a bacterial infection.

There was intense speculation as to Anna Nicole Smith's death when she was found unconscious in her suite at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. Smith was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. However, the medical examiner ruled out suicide saying she was in very high spirits and the police department said there was no evidence of foul play.

Anna Nicole Smith was unwell when she arrived in Florida and was complaining of 105 degree fever. The fever may have been a result of the infection caused by the longevity injections she was injecting in her buttocks, says the New York Times. Smith did not go to the hospital but kept taking chloral hydrate to go to sleep.

Last September, Anna Nicole Smith's 20-year-old son Daniel died of a drug overdose in the Bahamas a few days after Smith gave birth to a daughter, Dannielyn. Many believe that Smith has been in depression ever since.

Meanwhile, the battle for custody for Smith's baby daughter, Dannielyn, continues over who is the biological father of the baby. A Bahamian judge had recently ordered a DNA test for Dannielyn to determine the identity of her father. Dannielyn is currently in the care of Smith's last companion Howard Stern, who is being challenged by photographer Larry Birkhead an ex-boyfriend of Smith, for Dannielyn's custody.

There is also a lawsuit on whether Dannielyn will inherit a part of Smith's ex-husband, oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall II's vast estate.

Bob Woolmer murder case: Police have video that may help nab killers

Update:

The Jamaican police are now examining Bob Woolmer's computer for clues to his murder, according to various news reports. The police are hoping to find some leads pertaining to match-fixing, which is being considered by many as the prime motive for the murder.

The police are also trying to locate as many witnesses as possible. Most of the people in the hotel have moved to other venues of the world cup and the police are trying to track them down.

An Associated Press of Pakistan report says that the Jamaican police are looking for three Pakistanis connected to the Pakistan cricket team in connection with the murder. Reports say that Hamid Malik, Efran Chaudhary, and Jundie Khan were fans who spent a lot of time with Pakistani cricketers. The three, reportedly, left Jamaica soon after Bob Woolmer's death.

Meanwhile, the police also suspect that Bob Woolmer was poisoned or drugged before he was strangled. According to the New Zealand Herald, the police are conducting toxicology and tissue tests on Woolmer's last service meal.

The latest reports on the Bob Woolmer murder case are reporting the Jamaican police as saying that they are in possession of video that could help nail the killers. According to the deputy police commissioner Mark Shields, images were transferred into a digital format from the security videotapes at the Pegasus hotel.

The security video that the police has shows only an end of the corridor of the 12th floor and not any of the doors, including the door of Bob Woolmer's room. However, the police are hoping that whatever footage is available of the activity on the floors will give them some leads as to the identity of the killers.

Meanwhile, News of the World, a UK tabloid has quoted Bob Woolmer's close friend Clive Rice (South African cricket player) as saying that Bob Woolmer was aware of match fixing and knew the names of members of the betting nexus and senior officials who were involved. Woolmer was apparently going to tell all in this forthcoming book.

Miss USA 2007 Rachel Smith picture

21-year-old Rachel Smith, Miss Tennessee, won the title of Miss USA on friday night pipping 50 contestants to the post. Rachel Smith is a journalism graduate of Belmont University and has also worked as an intern for The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The first runner-up was Danielle Lacourse of Rhode Island.

The last Miss USA Tara Conner was in a spot of trouble and almost lost her crown when she entered rehab after accounts of her boozing at clubs appeared in the papers.

The judges included Vince Young, Jonathan Antin (Bravo's "Blowout" star), real estate tycoon Dr. Jerry Buss, E! News Co-Host Giuliana De Pandi, MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo, Baby Phat Kimora Lee Simmons, and Jerry Springer.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes form dream team of Revolutionary Road

Good news for Titanic fans! Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet will star together in the forthcoming movie "Revolutionary Road." The movie will be directed for DreamWorks by Sam Mendes.

The movie will be based on Richard Yates' novel, by the same name, about a suburban couple caught in a humdrum life who try to fufill their artistic desires by moving to France.

Revolutionary Road is a much acclaimed book and had made it to the top 100 books of all time in Time magazine.

The trio of Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, and Sam Mendes together in a movie is something of a dream team for DreamWorks. Leonardo DiCaprio received an Oscar nomination for his role in Blood Diamond. He also starred in the Oscar-winning best picture of the year, The Departed.

Kate Winslet was also nominated this year for her role in Little Children. Sam Mendes, Kate Winslet's husband, received the Oscar and Golden globe for directing American Beauty.

Bob Woolmer murder update: Two Pakistan players asked to stay back

According to a report in cricketworldcuplatest.com, two Pakistan players have been asked to stay back in Jamaica, in connection with the Bob Woolmer murder case. The rest of the team will be leaving for Pakistan shortly.

The Jamaican police have taken DNA samples of all the Pakistani players. Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman had said the whole Pakistani team would be leaving for Pakistan today.

Other reports say the murder investigation is currently focused on whether Bob Woolmer's murder was linked to any match-fixing of the World Cup games. For instance, could it be that the Ireland-Pakistan match was fixed and Bob Woolmer angered the betting nexus because Pakistan lost?

There are also rumours of altercations between Woolmer and some of the Pakistani players after the Ireland-Pakistan match. Detectives will be investigating these rumours as well.

There is the other angle of Bob Woolmer's impending book that would have exposed those involved in match fixing. Erstwhile Pakistan cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz has said that a proof of the book, which was the only copy, has disappeared from Woolmer's room.

It is highly unlikely that such a tech-savvy man as Woolmer would have kept only one hard copy of his book and no back-up copies in his computer. Secondly, Woolmer's family had categorically denied that the book would contain any explosive material.

The other explanation being bandied about is that of disgruntled Pakistan fans breaking in and doing away with Woolmer. It is too much of a stretch that angry fans would have gained quiet access to Woolmer's room and killed him without alerting anyone.

Britney Spears's divorce finalised, gets court injunction to stop leaks about her stay in rehab

Britney Spears has won a British court injunction to prevent details of her stay in rehab being leaked out in the media. According to news reports, the 25-year-old pop star has asked for action against those who have been publishing details of her time in rehab. The injunction bars persons who have been leaking out information about Spears' stay in rehab, from further disclosures.

Britney Spears has been under intense media scrutiny ever since she filed for divorce from husband Kevin Federline. The divorce has now been finalised and reports say that Kevin Federline may receive $19 million from Britney Spears and perhaps custody of their two children.

Bob Woolmer strangled to death says post-mortem report, may have known killers

The rumours can now be put at rest. Jamaican police have confirmed that Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer was murdered, as suspected. The Jamaican police gave a statement saying that the official post-mortem report shows that Woolmer died due to asphyxia as a result of being strangled.

In line with the murder investigation, the police has taken fingerprints and statements of the Pakistan team.

According to early reports, the Jamaican police suspect that the murder was committed by two persons. Also, there were no signs of forced entry so it's very likely that Bob Woolmer knew the murderers and let them in. Reports are also saying that access cards are needed to enter each floor of the hotel, and since no data of entry was found, it is likely that the killer was on the same floor as Woolmer.

Regarding the traces of poison found in Woolmer's body, the police are waiting for the toxicology results to determine if Bob Woolmer was poisoned before or after being strangled.

The police are also saying that the book Bob Woolmer was writing, Discovering Cricket, did contain explosive information about match-fixing and that may very well be the motive for the murder.

Bob Woolmer died of strangulation?

More conspiracy theories are swirling around Bob Woolmer's death. The latest theory is that the Pakistan cricket team coach was strangulated. This report has appeared in Konkani world, which quotes a Radio Jamaica reporter who says he is certain that the police will announce strangulation as the cause of Bob Woolmer's death shortly.

This theory might explain the marks on Bob Woolmer's neck and scratches on his cheeks which are not consistent with say a cardiac arrest.

Other reports in Jamaican media claim that police sources are now saying that fresh evidence has surfaced that indicates that Bob Woolmer may have been strangled. According to news reports, police sources are saying that a bone in Woolmer's neck, near the glands, had been broken.

Right now, all the murder theories are centered around the book that Bob Woolmer was writing to be called Discovering Cricket in which he was expected to expose match-fixing in the subcontinent.

Anna Nicole Smith's baby to undergo paternity test

A Bahamain judge has ordered a DNA test for Anna Nicole Smith's six-month old baby, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, say news reports, to determine the identity of her father.
Since Anna Nicole Smith's death in a Florida hotel in early February, a custody battle is being played out between freelance photographer Larry Birkhead, an ex-boyfriend of Nicole Smith, and Howard Stern, the last companion of Smith. Meanwhile, Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, also wants custody for she feels she can give little Dannielynn a more stable home.

The child is currently living with Howard Stern, who has been asked by the courts not to leave the country until the custody issues are sorted out.

One reason for fathers crawling out of the woodwork could be the fact that Anna Nicole Smith's baby may inherit millions from Smith's late husband billionaire J. Howard Marshall II. Anna Nicole Smith has been in a legal tangle with Marshall's family over his fortune.

Emma Watson to stick with Harry Potter?

Meanwhile, a report in Unconfirmed sources says that Emma Watson has signed a deal worth $476 million to star in films six and seven. The 16-year-old has reportedly negotiated hard over several weeks for her fat paycheck, which is not going to make her very popular with her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley.)

Filming for the sixth film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will start later this year.

Bob Woolmer's death suspicious, may have been poisoned say Jamaican police

Latest reports say that the Jamaican police have confirmed that Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer's death was suspicious and he may have been poisoned. According to CNN-IBN, Pakistan's Geo TV cricket correspondent has said that as per his Jamaican police sources, traces of poison were found in Bob Woolmer's body and therefore he must have died of poisoning. The toxicology and histology tests have shown traces of poison.

The Jamaican police are not coming out and calling it poisoning but they are calling it a suspicious death. They further clarified that suspicion doesn't necessarily mean a negative outcome.

So even if poisoning is confirmed, the question then is was Bob Woolmer murdered or did he commit suicide? Suicide seems unlikely in this situation though, since many have vouched for the fact that Woolmer may have been unhappy with Pakistan's ouster but he was hardly shattered.

Bob Woolmer murdered?

According to police sources in Jamaica, Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer may have been murdered. Although, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is saying that the post-mortem results were inconclusive.

Pakistani cricket team members have been questioned about their whereabouts at the time of Woolmer's death, according to news reports.

Others believe that Woolmer may have been murdered by the betting syndicate who were worried that Woolmer may reveal all in a book he was planning to write.

The Jamaican police will conduct a full-scale homicide investigation. Meanwhile, other tests are awaited that are likely to shed some light on the situation.

Women are smoking less in New York

New York Times has carried a survey that says that women in New York have reduced smoking.

According to the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Community Health Survey, a random telephone survey of 10,000 residents, "The number of female smokers over 18 has dropped from 630,000 in 2002 to 507,000 in 2005." As per the suryey, the smoking rate among women fell from 20 per cent to 16 percent in 2002-2005.

The drop in the number of smokers may be because of the fact that women are a lot more health-focused now. Another contributing factor could be the anti-smoking initiatives of Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg levied higher taxes and bannedsmoking in bars.

Bloomberg himself a former smoker had said last year that he would personally contribute $125 million for a worldwide campaign against smoking. I guess it's true what they say about the newly reformed....

How did Bob Woolmer die? Drugs and alcohol overdose, stress, or a heartattack?

While investigations are still on, many explanations for the mysterious death of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer are being bandied about.

According to a report in The Mirror, the police are checking out the possibility of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol. Woolmer was also a patient of diabetes.

Bob Woolmer's wife has been quoted as saying that Woolmer was very stressed as the coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Bob Woolmer's son Russell Woolmer has maintained that his father was under huge stress and doctors believe that Woolmer's death may have caused by stress or a heart attack.

Meanwhile, Pakistani politician and erstwhile cricket team captain Imran Khan squarely blames the performance of the Pakistan team for Woolmer's death. Khan who has never been known to mince his words was quoted by DNA (Daily News & Analysis) as saying that Bob Woolmer was not responsible for Pakistan's loss whatever the general public in Pakistan may say.

Daniela Hantuchova wins Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells

Daniela Hantuchova, the 23-year-old Slovakian, beat Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-3, 6-4, at Indian Wells to win the Pacific Life Open Tennis tournament. Hantuchova made a splash here five years ago when she beat Martina Hingis to win the Pacific Life Open. However, after that Hantuchova did not win any other titles and her performances weakened over the years.

Hantuchova is back and seems to be totally in control of her game. After this win, her ranking has gone up to No. 12. Hantuchova's ranking had touched No. 5 in 2005 when she won the Pacific Life Open the first time. Hantuchova is now headed to Miami for the Sony Ericsson tournament. It would be interesting to see if Hantuchova can build on this win this time around.

Natural home remedies and first aid for bee, wasp, and hornet stings

Bee, wasp, and hornet stings can be very painful. Minor bee or wasp stings can be treated at home quite easily but if there is excessive inflammation and rapid swelling it is best to see a doctor as soon as possible. It is an emergency if the person stung by a bee or a wasp has difficulty breathing or has blurred vision. Some people can be allergic to bee stings. Symptoms of allergy are runny nose, welts and swelling on other parts of body, nausea, lightheadedness etc. Again, it's important to see a doctor if you have allergic symptoms to a bee or a wasp sting instead of doing first aid on your own.

Home remedies for minor bee or wasp stings:

1) Apply honey to ease the pain.
2) Massage with ice cubes.
3) Apply a paste of vinegar and baking soda.

Home remedies and treatment for foot, back, knee bruises and sprains

I have been testing all kinds of natural, home remedies for a while now. Largely, because I am sick of allopathic medication and its side effects. Here, I have put down some remedies that I have found help heal a sprain. Note: This is a compilation of remedies that have been handed down my mom, grand mom, aunts, sisters etc, doctors, and also include remedies that I have read about and tried out.

The first thing you can do when you have a bruise or a sprain is to apply ice to the affected area be it your knee, foot, back, or knee. Very often, a ligament tear feels like a sprain and application of heat or rubbing in pain alleviating gels can increase internal bleeding. It's safer to go with ice. You can wrap ice cubes in a cloth or a towel and wrap it around the bruised area or you can place any other frozen food packet that is handy at the moment.

Cold compresses are a good idea for any kind of sprains or bruises. You can also apply rosemary oil or tincture of arnica. Mix a few drops (8-10) of arnica in cold water and apply as compress on the affected area.

Essential oils also help alleviate pain and reduce swelling in sprains. You can add a few drops of essential oils such as thyme, sage, marigold or lavender to any other base oil such as sunflower oil and apply to the sprained ankle, back or knee. Another option is to add a few drops of essential oil and epsom sals in warm water and soak the affected part.
